Privacy Policy

Welcome!

This is the obligatory page where I discuss the fine print FYI’s so I remain in good legal standing.

The TLDR if you’re in a hurry: basically, like millions of other websites, the Eudaimoniac collects info from visitors in the form of cookies, plus any personal info you give when you sign up for email. This information remains secure and is not shared with random strangers on the Internet.

Comments

When you leave comments on the Eudaimoniac, the site collects the information you provide in the comments form. Additionally, we collect your IP address and browser user agent string. This helps prevent spam (because who likes spam? Seriously).

We may also create a unique identifier (a hash) based on your email address to check if you have a Gravatar profile. Gravatar is a service that lets you have a profile picture associated with your email. You can learn more about Gravatar’s privacy policy here. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture (if you have one) will show up alongside your comment for others to see.

Media

If you decide to share images on our website, please keep in mind that any location data (EXIF GPS) might be embedded in the images. Some visitors could theoretically extract this data from the images you share, so be aware of that.

Cookies

When you leave a comment, you have the option to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies are designed to make your experience smoother by saving your details, so you don’t have to re-enter them each time you leave a comment. These cookies will stay active for a year.

When you visit our login page, we’ll place a temporary cookie in your browser to check if it accepts cookies. Don’t worry, this cookie doesn’t contain any personal information and it gets deleted when you close your browser.

If you log in, we’ll set up cookies to remember your login details and screen preferences. These cookies last for a certain period: two days for login cookies, and a year for screen options cookies. If you choose the “Remember Me” option, your login will stay active for two weeks. If you log out, the login cookies will be removed.

When you edit or publish an article, a separate cookie will be stored in your browser. This cookie doesn’t contain personal information; it simply indicates the article’s ID and expires after a day.

Embedded content from other websites

The articles on the Eudaimoniac might feature content from other websites, such as videos, images, or articles. This embedded content behaves just as it would if you were visiting the original website. These external sites might collect data, use cookies, and track your interaction with their content. If you have an account and are logged in on those external sites, they might also monitor your interactions.

Who we share your data with

Basically, no one. But, if you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email for security purposes.

How long we retain your data

Comments you leave and their associated information are retained indefinitely. This helps us automatically approve follow-up comments without delay.

For users who register on the Eudaimoniac, we store the personal information they provide in their profiles. You have the right to view, edit, or delete your personal information at any time (except for your username). Our website administrators also have access to this information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on our site or have left comments, you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can also ask us to delete any personal data we have, unless we’re required to keep it for administrative, legal, or security reasons.

One final thing…

Visitor comments may be automatically checked for spam detection. Because, again, no one appreciates spam.
